LILLE, FRANCE: After a period of almost 14 years, Belgian Davis Cup veteran, Olivier Rochus makes his ITF Pro Circuit return today (Tuesday) having accepted a wild card.
In June 2000 he made his last appearance on the ITF Pro Circuit in Oberweier, Germany when, aged 19, he claimed the singles title with a 57 62 75 defeat of Nicolas Thomann and was runner-up in the doubles with partner Reginald Willems.
Following this doubles final, Rochus would endure a wait of just under four years for his next doubles final appearance, but it would prove well worth the wait as it saw him becoming a Grand Slam champion at Roland Garros.
Now aged 33, the former ATP Top 25 ranked player is back and will be taking to the court to face Diego Garcia, a French qualifier, in a first round match scheduled for a post-6pm start local time as he begins his quest for back-to-back titles, albeit with a 14 year gap.
